My name is David, and a year ago I was living in the big city working as an IT pro and running the corporate rat race. I was tired, stressed, and spent way too much time indoors. Now, I live on an acreage surrounded by forest, nestled in a valley in the mountains of BC, Canada. I work from home, wake up to birds and deer and even the odd bear in the yard, and I feel better than I have in a long time!
Last summer, my family and I took our first steps towards our ultimate goal: getting off the grid, growing our own food, and living as sustainably and independently as possible.
There's a lot to learn, and a lot of preparation involved, so we're taking small steps; first, we got out of the city and into a small town. Next, we found a place that matches in many respects the ideal we're shooting for: a log home on an acreage, with a large garden plot and room for more. There's even room for some livestock, when we get to that stage. It's still closer to civilization than the final home we're envisioning, but it's a perfect "practice space" for the next few years while we get set up and learn everything we need to know.And that's what this website is all about: gathering together the information and knowledge and tips and tricks that I learn into one place, both as a reference for myself, and to help others with the same or similar dreams. One of the revenue streams I hope to create will come from online marketing, so there will be links to products/services I've found useful, and outside websites that I found helpful or informative.
